Sedation Vacations

Hey Team Tyler nation, I wish I could provide some funny notes to my posts like Michelle but it’s just not my forte. I am the information nerd. So anyway on with the information…Every shift (at least so far) they take Tyler off of his sedation medicine to give his body a chance to get out of its deep sleep. These are the times when we interact with him and he squeezes our hands and wiggles his toes and such. I unfortunately have not been by his bedside to witness any of these until now. Today Tyler OPENED HIS EYES AND LOOKED AT ME. This was the most awesome feeling a Father could have. I am so excited and encouraged by this progress.

As far as the rest of last night apparently this is fairly common but the had to switch out his his ECMO circuit which basically is switching out the machine. This put his body under a little stress and he has been shivering some, but that has settled down.

He is resting again comfortably and we keep sharing with him about all the folks back home and around the country that are sending us his thoughts and prayers.

Please keep ’em coming our way.

Michelle and Trey, we are praying for Tyler and your family! My family met your wonderful son in Bald Head for dinner while gathering with the whole Reddell/Sewell/Bridges clan. We loved meeting him and he is such a nice young man. I know the whole RVA community will do whatever we can to help.

    Wentz & Reddell Families,
How can we help? What can we do for you all to support? The Godwin Eagle Family stands ready to do
whatever is needed, but we want it to be a HELP and not a HINDRANCE. Please advise. Also, I let Kim Sigler at Pocahontas know, all of Tyler’s teachers last year and this year, our entire administrative team, and his Godwin School Counselor and our School Counseling Director. The more soldiers ready to support Team Tyler, the better. We also want to support Emily Wentz and Schuyler Reddell in any way possible. Sending you all hugs and prayers and positive energy,
Beth Armbruster & the Godwin Family

We are good friends of the Natalie and Jon. We have added Tyler and your family to multiple prayer lists …and include you in our frequent prayers. My husband, who is in the other room making his breakfast, spent last summer in ICU. I’ve been thrilled to hear about Tyler responding to voices and even opening his EYES!! Slow and steady (with some bumps along the way) is the name of this game. The body, with the support of prayer and medical intervention, is amazingly restorative. One (unsolicited) tip: play his favorite music, stream his favorite sports games on an ipod, ask people to send audio recordings. He may not respond, but on some level he will hear it. Team Tyler!! ????

Hey Trey, Michelle and Tyler! I am sorry to hear of this accident but and very hopeful to hear he is on ECMO. I work with patients on ventilators, with trachs, and have helped with ECMO. I completely understand (from a medical side) what is going on. Sounds like he is under excellent care. Sending prayers Tyler’s way. Please let me know if you need anything. Much love to you all!
